Hello! My name is Derrick Blessing. I live and serve in Accra, Ghana, where the Lord has called me to labor for His Kingdom. I am blessed to be married to my wife, Mariama Portia Blessing, who joyfully serves alongside me as my partner in ministry. Together, we are dedicated to seeing the Great Commission fulfilled in our city and across the nations of Africa.
Before encountering Christ, I was on the street focused on survival and driven by personal ambition and worldly pursuits. Though I had a general awareness of God because I was born in a Christian home, I wanted to be a muslim. I struggled with duping people, stealing, and trying to make ends meet and this led me into many things and many places as a young man.
But the Lord, in His mercy, drew me to Himself through the preaching of the Gospel by Pastor Ben Ofori-Nyame when we met in 2013. As I heard the message of Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection, my heart was convicted of sin and awakened to God’s love.
Today, with the help of the Holy Spirit, I walk daily in obedience to Christ, seeking to know Him more through prayer, the Word, and fellowship. My passion is to make disciples, raise men who love God, and equip them to live for Christ and reach others. My life is now centered on fulfilling the Great Commission and serving wherever the Lord sends me.
My ministry is making disciples, training pastors, and serving deprived communities within West Africa. A typical day of ministry involves prayer, personal study, and intentional engagement with people. I spend time teaching scripture, mentoring young men, sharing the Gospel through one-on-one conversations and outreach, and encouraging believers to grow in spiritual maturity. I also focus on educating people about their identity in Christ and their responsibility to live out their faith daily.
I currently lead a young men’s disciple-making group where we intentionally train, mentor, and mobilize young men for active soul-winning. Together, we engage in evangelism and follow-up discipleship with those we reach. I also work with Pastor Benjamin in “Overseeing Nations In Missions”, to enhance teaching and training of less privileged pastors and church leaders from all parts of Africa. We want to ensure that those leading the church are equipped with the truth of the Word.
The Lord is putting a vision for expansion on my heart. In the short term, I am working to strengthen our disciple-making groups and increase our outreach in underserved communities. Looking further ahead, I pray to see a network of trained pastors and disciple-makers across all of West Africa, raising godly leaders who will plant and strengthen local churches.
I am also prayerfully seeking opportunities to reach the local Asian and Chinese communities here in Africa. I believe that the Gospel is for everyone, and I am ready to go wherever the Lord sends me.
